Kokkinou said 'yes' to ERT for Belgrade but...
The Greek press has today confirmed what oikotimes.com posted in July of this year. Elli Kokkinou said yes to ERT for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest representation. The Greek broadcaster finalised the agreement with the artist, who is signed with Sony BMG Hellas, last week. However the agreement was reached one day before EBU announced the new format of the contest. At the moment Elli Kokkinou and ERT seem to be reconsidering the entire project because of the new format, they think that the two semifinals will be a difficult task. It seems that the negotiations will begin again soon. Secure sources revealed to Oikotimes.com that there is a strong possibility that a new agreement will be reached, especially if a great song is found.
Originally ERT thought that the EBU would use the same format for the 2008 contest. The Song Selection could take place in early 2008 (February is most likely the month of the selection) while promo tour will be scheduled among the countries of the semifinal in which Greece will be in, according to the draw. ERT is worrying about what will happen if Cyprus is not drawn in the semifinal as Greece. This also may affect the song selection which might be abandoned and full internal selection may apply for composer and lyricist as well.
